Wesley’s Blessing Romper

Design by Jacquelyn Orton, from “Sew Beautiful,” #71, 2000.

This handsome romper made of handkerchief linen, Swiss baby flannel, or Swiss cotton batiste is quite dashing! Machine embroidery at the yoke center is suitable for a monogram, religious, or other design, and is flanked on each side by rows of hemstitching and double-needle pintucks in sets of three. The Peter Pan collar is trimmed with piping or braid.  Pintucked three-quarter-inch sleeves are finished with cuffs, as are the pants. An optional short, capped sleeve style with cuffs may be substituted if preferred. The fullness of the lower portion of the romper is sewn to the front bodice with four pleats.  The crotch is finished with snap tape. A belt is centered over the waist seam, and fastens with two mother-of-pearl buttons. The back yokes fasten with three mother-of-pearl buttons. $300

  • An alternative style, designed by Amelia Johanson of “Sew Beautiful” magazine, with a V-yoke overlay on a hand-smocked bodice, is also available, using either the fabrics above, or white rayon velvet combined with silk dupioni. The V-shaped overlay would be suitable for a machine-embroidered monogram or religious symbol. $500
  • Available in Newborn, 6,12,18, and 24 month sizes
